\section{History}\label{history}

This is a required course for PhD students in the Department of Computer
and Information Science at the University of Mississippi. It is
available to MS students. The faculty plans to offer the course every
two or three semesters as long as there is a sufficient potential
enrollment of PhD students.

Dr.~H. Conrad Cunningham, Professor and Chair, developed and taught the
first offering of the course in Spring 2013 as Engr 694-6. He taught a
second, considerably revised version of the course in Spring 2014 as
Engr 694-60. Dr.~Philip Rhodes taught the course in Spring 2015.
Cunningham again taught the course as Engr 694-60 in Spring 2016.

Dr. Cunningham is again teaching the course as Engr 694-6 in Fall 2017.
He will use an approach similar to the Spring 2016 version but look for
ways to update and enrich the experience for the students.
